The origin of the Boot comes from a surprising source. Many would guess the boot was conceived in a bar or at a party, but legend tells a different story. The Stiefel was a product of the battlefield. A Persian general, in a persuasive speech to his troops, promised a strange act following victory on the battlefield; his troops were engaged in a punishing siege on an enemy town. Well his troops taking the promise to heart overtook the town, and gave the Persian general the opportunity to act on his promise. His promise? He pledged a toast to victory by drinking from the very boot that he wore on the battlefield. Now more fearful of the possible dangers in his boot than in the previous battle he second guessed his deal and was put in a tight spot. Instead of failing his troops, he surpassed all doubts with the assistance of a friend who was skilled in glassmaking. This friend created the first glass boot, and in saving a Persian general fashioned a permanent spot for this glass in any beer culture. Because this practical drinking companion has not yet been invited to parties here in the states I decided to connect you to an obscure treasure of the German bars.
